Tongue Tribe was born from a commission to lead a singing project for the Staveley Carnival 2008. Following a thoroughly enjoyable 8 week process leading to 3 great public performances the participants asked us to continue running this group.

Together we are laying foundations for stretching participants as well as challenging ourselves as facilitators. Tongue Tribe is a “seriously fun” performance group exploring and gathering its own unique style of creative expression and entertainment.

BBC Choral Fund

In January we received a BBC Choral fund to help us explore our horizons - exactly what we need to begin to gather a sense of ourselves. The fund has directly supported a diverse range of Summer performances with some of our own unique arrangements and songs. You may have caught us at a care home for elders or down Kendal high street.

Our recent Summer tour has been sponsored by Lakeland Spring Water

The BBC Choral fund has also offered us as facilitators some training for creating our own arrangements and a Tribal Groove workshop set for September which will encourage us to explore movement and body percussion as a potential part of our tribal practice.

If you wish to join Tongue Tribe you will need…

• a commitment to learning repertoire as we go
• a will to develop your singing skills
• and a desire to perform

You will also need an online connection and regular email facility.

Tongue Tribe is a healthy challenge for anyone wanting something more than a regular community singing group. We teach all material by ear (without written music), we sing everything a cappella (without instruments) and we enroll new members through involvement (without auditions).

Singing places are limited. Available places will be on offer in August & December to anyone who has expressed an interest to us.
We would particularly welcome hearing from singers with a male range or singers with a high voice
