An independent performance choir who rehearse in Ings, near Staveley

Tongue Tribe was born from a commission to lead a singing project for the Staveley Carnival 2008. Following a thoroughly enjoyable 8 week process we produced 3 great public performances at the carnival.

With Tongue Tribe we have laid foundations for stretching participants as well as challenging ourselves as facilitators. Tongue Tribe is a “seriously fun” performance group exploring and gathering its own unique style of creative expression and entertainment.

BBC Choral Fund

In January 2010 Tongue Tribe received a BBC Choral fund which directly supported a diverse range of Summer performances with some of our own unique arrangements and songs. You may have caught us at a care home for elders or in Kendal town centre, at the Eric Morecambe statue in Morecambe or at Sedbergh Folk Festival.

The BBC Choral fund offered us as facilitators, some training for creating our own arrangements and a Tribal Groove workshop which encouraged us to explore movement and rhythm as a potential part of our tribal practice.

Tongue Tribe is more than a regular community singing group. It is a commitment, a challenge and something to be proud of.
Tongue Tribe is a performance group comprising members of the local community who are able and willing to reach for something more.
Tongue Tribe is the hottest new performance singing tribe in the South Lakes. Our performances will be focused on entertaining our audiences, whether they be in a hospital or in a street.
We teach all material by ear - a challenge to those who read from the stave and accessible to those who don't. We sing everything a cappella - just the pure acoustic voice, no instruments, no amplification. We audition every one keen to join the group - the audition is with Ali Rigg; it is free, 30 minutes long and comprises a warm up, learning a basic round and singing two short prescribed pieces (learnt from our web based resource).

To apply to join Tongue Tribe you will need…

  • a joy for singing
  • a keenness to perform
  • a will to develop your singing skills
  • an online connection and regular email facility
  • a friendly smile
  • to be a team player
  • to ring us on 07812 155104 or email us to arrange your audition.

Tongue Tribe meet in Ings near Staveley on a Thursday night.
